The latter venue was created in partnership with Food Network's Guy Fieri and serves a free lunch on embarkation and sea days, with all items smoked on board. In addition, every ship has at least one — and usually several — extra-charge eateries. The two venues have flat fees of $49 and $24 per person, respectively. Every vessel has two main dining rooms and a casual buffet eatery where meals are included in the fare. For dinner in the main dining room, you must sign up for either Your Time dining (you go whenever you want) or Traditional Dining (you have a fixed table and time for dinner).
Cabin Size

Each of the line's earlier Conquest Class ships has around 50 suites. The oldest Fantasy Class vessels have 28 suites and 26 junior suites. Carnival's biggest operations are out of PortMiami and Port Canaveral in Florida; Galveston, Texas; Long Beach, California; and New Orleans — all major cruise hubs. You'll also find Carnival ships in such secondary cruise ship ports as Baltimore; Charleston, South Carolina; Mobile, Alabama; and Jacksonville, Florida.

Junior Suite (Obstructed View)
There was a time when Carnival operated some of the biggest cruise ships in the world. Like most large cruise ships, the casino on the Carnival Fantasy is a favorite place for those who love gaming. Several of the bars are found on the promenade deck, and the indoor seating along the promenade is a good place for people watching. The Universe Lounge is the large show lounge, and the two production shows we saw on our 5-day cruise were excellent. A Cloud 9 Spa Suite is the ultimate in both stateroom and spa accommodations. There's room for you and your things — with a large room and balcony — and a walk-in closet.
Ocean View Staterooms
We enjoyed both main dining room meals, which included prime rib, lobster tail, New York strip and pan-seared barramundi. I especially enjoyed the beet and petite greens salad with a citrus dressing. Of course, when on a Carnival ship, you must try the line's signature melting chocolate cake, which I did, and it was perfection.
The Carnival Fantasy has two almost identical dining rooms on deck 8 that are divided by the galley. Our room was set extremely cold at night but the comforter kept us warm — borderline hot — while we slept. If you’re worried about thin blankets, then you can put those fears aside. One other perk we liked was that pool/beach towels were already in the room for our use. Because of this we didn’t have to bother going to a towel station when we were ready to hit the pool.
Grand Suite Extended Balcony
Then, when you’re ready to start planning your cruise to the Caribbean or The Bahamas, head on over to the sailings schedule and choose the cruise that suits you best. For an extended cruise from Tampa, Florida, or Baltimore, Maryland, look to Carnival Pride. The ship has something for every type of traveler, including three kids clubs, adult-only spaces, and over a dozen different dining options. Carnival Splendor sails the Southern Hemisphere around Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific on cruises that range from two to 10 days.
Family Harbor Suite
As do floor-to-ceiling windows that make sure nothing gets in the way. Even more convenience and comfort come standard, like a huge balcony made for stretching out, a tub that’s great for doing the same, a convenient walk-in dressing area, plus VIP check-in. This ship remains classic Carnival — fun-packed from bow to stern — but on the other hand, we've never stopped adding fresh new features. So now you can grab something cold, or sweet… or maybe even hot, at JavaBlue™ Café. Meet the new Cloud 9 Spa™, featuring a full menu of, ahhh, spa treatments. We also added a Bonsai Sushi Express™, so you can take your fresh sushi, sashimi, rolls and more, to go, someplace fun.
How to book
All this said, we recommend checking Carnival's website before sailing for the very latest on requirements. Each group has its own age-appropriate activities ranging from face painting to pirate adventures. On many ships there are extensive dedicated spaces for the different groups.
Onboard Activities
On many cruise ships, inside cabins are smaller than oceanview and balcony cabins. On Carnival Panorama, for instance, most inside cabins measure 185 square feet. That's the same size as the interior area of some oceanview and most balcony cabins on the ship (not including the extra square footage from the balcony). To a non-cruiser, the idea that you need space-saving hacks to travel comfortably at sea could be off-putting, but not all cruise lines and cabins are created equal. Aboard ships from Regent, Oceania, and other high-end lines, the focus is less on waterslides and roller coasters (yes, three Carnival ships feature one on board) and more on comfort.
Balcony staterooms were designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, so look to a balcony if you're looking to cruise aboard Carnival Paradise. Any time you're in your room, you're just steps away from your own personal outdoor oasis, featuring the sort of sea view you can also feel. Balcony staterooms were designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, so look to a balcony if you're looking to cruise aboard Carnival Vista.
It may sound fantastical, but the virtual tour will give you a sneak peek of what it will feel like to fly high above deck. Carnival Spirit sets sail from home ports around the United States to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal. The ship offers a wide range of entertainment options, including mini-golf, a jogging track, kids clubs, and adult-centric entertainment. Carnival Breeze is ideal for a short cruise out of Galveston, Texas.
It makes house beers including Parched Pig West Coast IPA and Parched Pig Toasted Amber which you'll find on many Carnival vessels in kegs and cans. The arrival of Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration over the past two years has marked a major turning point for the line. At around 180,000 tons, they rank at No. 15 and No. 13, respectively, among the world's largest cruise ships — the only Carnival ships to crack the Top 20. One more ship in the series — Carnival Jubilee — will arrive in December 2023. This is a notable change for the brand from just a couple of decades ago.
